STEPHEN MINISTRY

The Pitman United Methodist Church is a Stephen Ministry Church.  Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who listen, care, encourage and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are facing a crisis or going through tough times.  The care received is confidential, free, and very helpful.

If you would like to learn more about Pitman UMC Stephen Ministry or know someone in need of care, please contact one of our pastors, Rev. Dr. Larry Potts,  revlarrypotts@pitmanumc.org or Rev. Kee Yang, pastorkee@pitmanumc.org or our lay Stephen Ministry Leader, Jon Simmons (stephenministry@pitmanumc.org).

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who receive special training to provide one-on-one Christian care to people in our congregation and community who are experiencing grief, loneliness, divorce, hospitalization, disability, job loss, and many other life difficulties.  If you feel God calling you to become a Stephen Minister, please contact the pastors or Stephen Leader.

Stephen Ministry is a non-denominational lay ministry that has commissioned more than 500,000 Stephen Ministers.  There are now more than 10,000 congregations that are Stephen Ministry churches, which means that they actively train lay people as Stephen Ministers. The name Stephen comes from St. Stephen, who was the first lay person commissioned by the apostles to provide caring ministry to those in need (as recorded in Acts 6).
